So you ˹O Prophet˺ certainly cannot make the dead hear ˹the truth˺. Nor can you make the deaf hear the call when they turn their backs and walk away.

ثم سلى - سبحانه - نبيه عما لحقه منهم من أذى ، بعد أن ذكر له جانباً من تقلب أحوالهم ، فقال - تعالى - : ( فَإِنَّكَ لاَ تُسْمِعُ الموتى وَلاَ تُسْمِعُ الصم الدعآء إِذَا وَلَّوْاْ مُدْبِرِينَ ) . اى : فاصبر - أيها الرسول - لحكم ربك ، واثبت على ما أنت عليه من حق ( فَإِنَّكَ لاَ تُسْمِعُ الموتى ) إذا ناديتهم ( وَلاَ تُسْمِعُ الصم الدعآء ) إذا ما دعوتهم او وعظتهم .وقوله ( إِذَا وَلَّوْاْ مُدْبِرِينَ ) بيان لإِعراضهم عن الحق ، بعد بيان كونهم كالأموات وكالصم .
He has revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ the Book in truth, confirming what came before it, as He revealed the Torah and the Gospel
