We will certainly make them taste some of the minor torment ˹in this life˺ before the major torment ˹of the Hereafter˺, so perhaps they will return ˹to the Right Path˺.

( وَلَنُذِيقَنَّهُمْ مِّنَ العذاب الأدنى ) أى الأهون والأقرب والأقل وهو عذاب الدنيا ، من طريق ما ننزله بهم من أمراض وأسقام ومصائب متنوعة .( دُونَ العذاب الأكبر ) أى : الاشد والأعظم والأبقى ، وهو عذاب الآخرة .( لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ ) عما هم فهي من شرك وكفر وفسوق وعصيان .
He has revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ the Book in truth, confirming what came before it, as He revealed the Torah and the Gospel
