For whenever it was said to them ˹in the world˺, “There is no god ˹worthy of worship˺ except Allah,” they acted arrogantly

( إِنَّهُمْ كانوا ) فى الدنيا ( إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ ) على سبيل النصيحة والدعوة إلى الحق ( لاَ إله إِلاَّ الله يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ ) عن قبول هذه النصيحة ، ويعرضون عنها ، ويصرون على كفرهم وجحودهم للحق ، ويستكبرون عن النطق بكلمة الإِيمان .
He has revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ the Book in truth, confirming what came before it, as He revealed the Torah and the Gospel
